Following identification
of multiple constraints and using a scoring matrix, CHS was
able to identify the recommended means of rehabilitating 8,500
linear feet of deteriorated 24" concrete pipe wastewater interceptor
located within the right-of-way of State Route 104 in the
City of Edmonds. Project included the rehabilitation using
cured-in-place pipe and the treatment of existing manholes
with a hydrogen sulfide-resistant coating to prevent further
corrosion. Work required extensive traffic control coordination
with WSDOT within a high-traffic volume state highway and
an extensive 4 MGD temporary wastewater bypass system. Work
also included the installation of 24" HDPE pipe bend to reduce
turbulence at an existing 90° bend in the interceptor. CHS
provided pre-design, design and construction management services.
The City was able to rehabilitate nearly twice as much sewer
main as originally anticipated due to favorable bid prices.
